"Scientists have discovered a new species of miniature pterodactyl -- and to judge by the illustrated rendition, it was very adorable.
Discovered in northeastern China by paleontologists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Brazil's Museum of Earth Sciences, Nemicolopterus crypticus had a one-foot wingspan, roosted in gingko forests and lived during the Early Cretaceous.
NewpteroIn a study published today in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, the discoverers surmise that N. crypticus-like reptiles evolved into the giant pterodactyls of late-Cretaceous (and Jurassic Park) fame."
