I once read a comment on another blog in which one poster admonished another by saying, “If you’d spend more time in the library and less time online, maybe you’d have your facts correct!” While I’m the first to agree that anything can – and does – get “published” on the Web, I’m not willing to accept a statement as true just because it’s bound in black and white, either. And what if there aren’t any traditional books on a subject, such as MEGA?

Obviously, the best way to obtain information about MEGA is to interview those that have first-hand knowledge of the place. So far, I've only managed limited contact with the original team, so I look to articles by authors who have conducted interviews. My favorite resources are those that provide direct quotes by Ms. Zelitsky, Mr. Weinzweig or Sr. Iturralde, all individuals who have been on-site and studied the available evidence. As far as I know, none of them have published their own authoritative documents on MEGA, but studying the text of their interviews gives you at least a glimpse at the truth. Here’s my “A” list, in no particular order:

Howe, Linda Moulton. Update on Underwater Megalithic Structures Near Western Cuba (2001), Update About Cuba Underwater Megalithic Research (2002) and Part 1 - Update On Deep Water Megalithic Stones and Structures Near Western Cuba (2003). Available by subscription from http://www.earthfiles.com.

Fernandez, Luis Mariano. Atlantis in Cuba? An Interview with Zelitsky and Iturralde on 3/26/2005 (2005). English (translated) version at http://www.s8int.com/water28.html. This is the most current information I’ve found so far. Also see this site’s pages at /water1.html, /water19.html, /water20.html, /water23.html, /water27.html and /water28.html for additional articles on MEGA written by various authors.

The Morien Institute. Exclusive Interview with Dr. Paul Weinzweig (2002).
http://www.morien-institute.org/interview1_ADC.html. Also see /interview2_ADC.html.

Collins, Andrew. ‘Lost City’ Found off Cuba – Is it Proof of Atlantis? (Undated).
http://www.andrewcollins.com/page/articles/lostcity.htm. See the last two lines of the article.

I’ve compiled a lengthy list of other articles about MEGA and its discoverers and my research continues every day. If you Google Zelitsky, you’ll get more than 600 hits and most of them reference Paulina Zelitsky, the head of the research team that made the original discovery. Sadly, many of the hits contain the exact same content because the practice of “borrowing” another’s intellectual material seems to be the norm on the Web. Other articles are nothing more than paraphrased versions of the originals. It seems that back in the 2001-2002 timeframe, when the discovery was first announced, everybody wanted to get on the MEGA bandwagon.

Maybe someday the phone will ring and I will hear Ms. Zelitsky say, “I’ve been following your blog and I’d really appreciate it if you would fly down here and become our staff writer.” Until then, my search for additional credible information goes on … and on … and on.

Re: Reliable Information on MEGA

I found this article and thought you might enjoy it. The author, an archaeologist, shares in yhour frustration with the limitied scope of new data and references a few things you don't. The link: http://www.narkas.org/EN/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=20&Itemid=29 . I am also trying to dig around and find out what the team of Intl. Explorers who went to the site in Oct. of '04 on the Mexican ship "Milenio" found. Do you have any info on that?

Re: Reliable Information on MEGA

Thanks for the link. The article is a good review of what's been published since 2001, but there's nothing new there - all the material was "lifted" from previously published articles.

My most recent information is from Paul Weinzweig himself. In February, when Raul "officially" took over, I asked him if this change would impact their plans to revisit the site. His reply was "The changes will come slowly. It is still too early to envision a return to our explorations."

Re: Reliable Information on MEGA

You are, based on my reseach on MEGA and the lack of info thereof, by far the person with the most current info on this topic. I am have been operating on the basis that Paul W. and Paulina Z. where the equivalent of the disappeared.

NO ONE has any info about them since 2005 and here you are all casually dropping oh, BTW I spoke to Paul... Can you please share with me any other info you have, i.e. did they go back out agin in the Fall of 2005 after the disappointing results of their 2004 expedition?

Who funded the 2004 2 million dollar trip? What were the results from the rock and stone analysis from all the trips? What are they doing now?

If you'd rather email me free to email me at the adress below please put "per your request - MEGA" in the subject line as I don't want it to get caught in junk box.

Thanking you in advance your time,

Re: Reliable Information on MEGA

Traci:

I'm going to post my reply here because I suspect that others are wondering about the same issues and, unfortunately, I don't have the kind of information you're asking for. My email correspondence (I don't think I ever said I "spoke" to either PZ or PW) has been brief and to the point and has never included any details about their research. As you can imagine, they have to be very protective of their find until they have more facts. If it turns out to be an ancient archaeological site it will be the discovery of a lifetime but if it turns out to be just a pile of empty Russian missile crates left over from the 60s (as Dr. Greg Little has suggested) it won’t be nearly as news-worthy.

All I can tell you for sure is that I believe that they believe there’s an archaeological site 2,100 feet below the surface somewhere off the western tip of Cuba. I have no doubt that politics, finances and a desire to “do it right” have prevented them from returning to the site to confirm their suspicions.

If you follow the trail of their company, ADC, through online sources, you’ll discover that when they left western Canada they moved to Havana and then registered in the Bahamas. From there they moved to Progresso, Mexico and I think they’re now working somewhere along the Pacific coast of mainland Mexico, so they certainly haven’t disappeared.

On my blog (www.TheMegaBlog.com) I’ve suggested at least one way to investigate the site and I even wrote a novel (Triangle) in which the characters explore the site in detail (see www.SeedsOfCivilization.com) but the truth about MEGA remains a mystery, at least for now.

Then, you may be hearing back form me :)... Please feel free to delete my repeated post, and could you please take my email down as well? Thanks, TL

Re: Reliable Information on MEGA

The blog has been updated to the latest version with double posts repeated. Hope that helps. It should be easier to use, just scroll down to the very bottom when you edit a post so you can delete it.
